Trapunto Seashells Embroidery Project

Trapunto or “stuffed work” is a whole cloth quilting technique that creates a raised design, and can be done by hand or machine. Create a wall hanging with an easy to follow trapunto technique.

Supply List –

  • Isacord threads – your choice of color
  • Bobbin thread (optional)
  • OESD Lightweight Tear Away Stabilizer
  • OESD Fusible Woven Stablizer
  • Embroidery needles
  • 505 Temporary Adhesive Spray
  • Duckbill Applique scissors
  • Small sharp pointed scissors
  • Painter’s tape
  • Extra loft batting
  • Low loft batting
  • Wash-away Thread (available in the store)
  • Fabric*

*Fabric --The sample used a light-colored fabric on top and muslin on the bottom. To finish the wall hanging, the same light-colored fabric will be used on the back.

You can choose to make only a single block or multiple blocks. If you make multiple blocks, a flip and stitch method would be suggested to put the blocks together with the backing.

Please printout and read through the Preview Sewing Information for this design to give you an idea of the trapunto technique.

***NOTE: Please have your design downloaded and on a USB stick ready to go before coming to class.
