Block of the Month

Updated 3/3/19

NOTE: Space is still available in the evening class. We will need to order the pattern so please register by March 7 so we may get the pattern here.

The Heartland Heritage Block of the Month class will be offered on the 1st Saturday at 9 am or the 2nd Tuesday evening at 6 pm., starting in March and ending in December. Each class is 3 hours.

This is a scrappy quilt and the finished size is 68” x 74”. There are 12 blocks, and you will be making between 3 to 5 of the same block depending on the block pattern.

Each month --

  • You will receive a printed block pattern (some months will have two!) with cutting and piecing instructions, and some helpful tips to complete the block.
  • We will cut out and make one block in class. You will then make the rest of the month's blocks on your own.

Fabric you will need --

  • 5 yards of background fabric (this includes the borders) -- use a variety of low-volume prints from your stash or use the same fabric for entire background
  • Your favorite scraps or fat quarters for the blocks
  • 4 ¼ yards of backing fabric
  • 2/3 yard of binding fabric

What you need to bring to class --

  • Fabric (background, scraps & fat quarters)
  • Thread
  • Basic sewing supplies to include: scissors for clipping threads, shears, pins and seam ripper
  • Rotary cutter with a good blade, mat for use with rotary cutting tool and ruler
  • Sewing machine with power cord and foot control, cleaned and in good working order with a new needle
  • Marking pencil
  • Quarter inch Seam marker (available in the store) - optional
